The goal of vom Eisenherz German Shepherds is to pair buyers, whether they be families, individuals or agencies with a dog that exceeds their expectations- a companion and working partner sound in both body and mind, properly balanced between drive for the work it was intended to perform and the unyielding desire to work alongside its leader.
After years observing different training venues of the "working dog world," German Shepherds in particular, it is my conclusion that the key traits that used to separate the German Shepherd Dog from other breeds, the key traits that made German Shepherds such legendary, noble working dogs are being under-emphasized at best. At worst, those traits are being almost entirely bred out in favor of producing extreme, singularly-focused, overly- reactive dogs who lack focus, nerve strength, character and are more of a liability than an asset, or on the other end of the spectrum, a dog who may loosely resemble a GSD in physical attributes, but it lacks the strength of character, resiliency, aggression, drive, and working ability to be labeled as such. Simply put, there is one standard for a German Shepherd, and that is of a working dog. We try to closely adhere to that standard, and we try just as hard to place them with those who will appreciate these discerning dogs for what they are- working dogs.
Vom Eisenherz German Shepherds' puppy evaluation begins at birth. Rather than rely on one single "Puppy Temperament Test," administered on one day only, here every pup is monitored closely from birth until final placement for a myriad of traits. Consistency of behaviors from an early age is a far more reliable gauge of the future than one test result on one day. There is no breeder who spends more time studying pups' interaction with their environment or knows their individual puppies better. Having bred several generations of the same bloodlines, we also are able to more accurately predict temperamental outcomes than those making a pairing for the first time or new to the bloodline. Thus, my selection process and placement success is second to none- a huge benefit to both the buyer and the puppy.
My constant evaluation, accurate and careful reading of the dogs, coupled with thorough interviews of interested parties helps ensure a successful temperamental match between dog and handler. You are purchasing far more than "just" a puppy when you choose vom Eisenherz.
